Instructor: Joy Oladokun is an American musician and her work incorporates the genres of folk, R&B, rock, and pop. Joy is influenced by her identity as a queer woman of color and she is based in Nashville, Tennessee. Joy has performed at Newport Folk Festival in 2021. Adia Victoria is an American musician, known for her “gothic blues” musical style. Adia lives in Nashville and she has performed at Newport Folk Festival in 2019 and 2021.

Subject: Students will learn about Black women musicians in the history of music, as well as watch a performance by Joy and Adia.

Age/Skill-Level Recommendation: Intended for beginner level students. No previous music knowledge required, ages 14 and up.
