George Wein Memorial Fund

Achieving George’s dream to have young people from all walks of life experience the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals.

George Wein founded our Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals in 1954 and 1959 respectively, as well as numerous other festivals across the world. George believed that every person, regardless of socioeconomic status, should have the opportunity to experience live music. In 2023, NFF created the George Wein Memorial Fund to honor George and help achieve his vision. Through this program, NFF provides tickets to the Festivals for students who would otherwise lack access.

As part of this initiative, every senior from Rogers High School in Newport, RI is able to attend the Newport Jazz Festival free of charge. NFF also provides access for local music education programs in Rhode Island such as the Newport County Boys and Girls Club, NewportFilm, Team Fame, and many more.

If you are a public school teacher or part of a nonprofit that works with students and would like to invite your students to attend the festivals, please email info@newportfestivals.org
