Darlingside – How to Be a Band!

A free workshop primer on Co-Creation and Co-Existence

Please note: This workshop is currently only open to high school and college students. On May 6th, any remaining spots will be made available to the general public. 

About the artist:
 
Darlingside is a four-person indie folk band from Boston, MA. The band consists of Don Mitchell, Auyon Mukharji, and Harris Paseltiner. Their style has been described as “exquisitely arranged, literary-minded, baroque folk-pop” by All Songs Considered. Darlingside performed at the Newport Folk Festival in 2018.

Tia Fuller – Female Leaders of Jazz

Please note: This workshop is only open to high school and college students. 

Internationally acclaimed saxophonist and jazz educator, Tia Fuller, presents an in-depth and interactive presentation on key women figureheads in jazz music, dating back to the early 20th century through the present. She will explore elements of how these women shaped and defined what we call jazz, touching on their contributions that influenced every musical configuration; vocals, big band, small ensembles, etc. Q&A will take place after the presentation

About the artist: 
 
Tia Fuller is an American saxophonist, composer and educator. She is a member of the all female band touring with Beyonce. She was a featured jazz musician in the Disney movie Soul as Dorothea Williams. Tia Fuller teaches at Berklee in the ensemble department. She continues to compose and perform around the world with her own ensembles and the likes of some of the biggest names in jazz including Esperanza Spaulding, Terri Lynn Carrington, and Sean Jones.

THIS WORKSHOP HAS REACHED CAPACITY. But we encourage you to come by 15 minutes before the start time to join the “standby” line. 

Join Valerie June for this Children’s Book Reading and Ukulele Workshop presented by Third Man Books! An art project by illustrator, Marcela Avelar, will also be available for kids too young to play a ukulele. Third Man Books is the publishing imprint of multi-Grammy musician Jack White’s Third Man Records.
